She notes that in 2005, foundation giving for dental education and dental care was $55.6 million, or 1.6 percent of total health grant making.

Journal Passwords

January 25, 2008

Are You Frustrated Trying to Access Journal Articles?

images.jpgDespite the assumption that everything is available freely on the web, most professional journals require a subscription to retrieve articles.
The following are some tips for accessing articles:

  • You must enter the journal through the library website in order for the subscription to be recognized
  • If you are offsite you will need to access with your library account. At some point you will be prompted for your username and password
  • We dont have subscriptions to every journal electronically, however we may have the title in print, so be sure to search the library catalog by journal title
  • If we do not own the journal in print or electronically you may wish to order the article through Interlibrary Loan:  $3 residents, $5 faculty.
  • In many cases, if you enter PubMed or OVID through the library website, and we have an electronic subjscription to the journal you are looking for, you will be linked  directly to the text of the article you want.  Look for links that read “Find Text at UR“.
  • There are still some publishers that require an additional username and password to access the full text of their articles.  If you are having problems accessing full-text, please call the library at 275-3247 or select “Ask a Librarian” from any of our web pages.

Those journals requiring additional authentication include:

  • International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants
  • International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry
  • International Journal of Prosthodontics
  • Journal of Adhesive Dentistry
  • Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry
  • Journal of Oral Laser Applications
  • Journal of Orofacial Pain
  • Quintessence International
  • Above all else, remember, you can ask us to help you anytime!
