Join us on 1/30 for Data Management Plan Workshop

January 14, 2014

This may be of interest to researchers at Eastman Institute of Oral Health.

How do you write a good data management plan?

What resources are available at URMC to help you manage your data effectively?

As more and more funders are asking for data management plans (DMPs) with grant applications, Medical Center Libraries and Technologies is collaborating with River Campus Libraries to bring UR researchers the best possible services in support of data management needs.

Join us for a one-hour workshop on writing a successful data management plan on Thursday, January 30 at noon, in the Saunders Research Building, Room 1.410.

This workshop will cover the basics of writing a data management plan, as well as introducing the DMPTool, an online resource that helps you draft DMPs tailored to specific funders’ requirements.

Feel free to bring your lunch.

May 28, 2013

Are you interested in Massive Open Online Courses, known as MOOCs?

At Noon on Thursday, May 30 Miner Librarians Linda Hasman and Valorie Hallinan will be talking about MOOCs in the History of Medicine Room of Miner Library.

I plan to attend, and I hope to see you there!

MOCCs Wordle

Improvisation. How to Build a Blog. Computational Neuroscience. The History of Rock. Cryptography.

All of these are MOOCs, or Massive Open Online Courses. The MOOC revolution is making the best teachers and classes available at no cost to anyone with an internet connection.

Please join us at Miner on Thursday, May 30 at HIGH NOON when librarians Linda Hasman and Valorie Hallinan will explore MOOCs.

We’ll look at the “big three” MOOCs, how to enroll in a MOOC, whether you can MOOC your way through college, and some of the controversy surrounding MOOCs. Plus, we’ll feature sneak previews of some of the more tantalizing MOOCs.

Everyone is welcome to this free event. Bring your lunch if you’d like. Please note that this month’s HIGH NOON is on Thursday.

For more information, contact Linda Hasman at 275-3399 or Valorie Hallinan at 275-6873.

New Hours at Bibby Library

May 21, 2013

Thank you to all our dedicated users for your patience as I have transitioned into my new role as Bibby Librarian.  For those that may not have heard, the position is now part-time, so I’m at Bibby Library 24 hours per week.

This will cause some changes, the first being the library’s hours of operation.

Bonnie and I have worked together to create a schedule that maximizes the number of business hours that we are open.

We hope you approve!

New Bibby Library Hours of Operation:

  • Monday:       8:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Tuesday:       8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Wednesday: 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM
  • Thursday:     8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Friday:          8:30 AM to 12:00 PM

Don't Forget! smiley icon

Even though the library is no longer staffed on Wednesday morning or Friday afternoon, keep in mind that authorized users can still access the library at any time with their University ID.

All we ask is that you refrain from propping the door open, nor allowing access to unauthorized users. Bibby library is open to the public only during staffed hours, and having the doors locked in our absence insures the safety of our facility, the collection, and our users.

Thanks for your cooperation!

Where’s the Scanner?

January 22, 2013

The library scanner has been removed because it was not compatible with the recent upgrade to our computers.

The scanner, photocopier and printer will soon be replaced with an all-in-one unit that will also allow you to fax.

We suggest you check with your administrators to see if there is a department scanner you can use for the interim.  We apologize for the inconvenience and will let you know as soon as the new equipment arrives!

Update: We have a new combined copier, printer, scanner, which scans to a folder on all of our computers! You’ll need your UR id or a copy card to access the scan function.Scanning is faster and high quality. Ask us if you’d like help with the new features.
